First public release of the Node Director system management software after a long delay with only private releases. Numerous modifications include a new web UI completely rewritten from scratch, java rather than native binaries, a number of new sync features (e.g. for Active Directory support), a new bootstrap mechanism allowing one-click integration of new machines, and many many more.
The Director is a system and network management software featuring centralized user/host management, software distribution, directory management and more.
Release 4.4.5 comes with a new init mechanism (read the release notes and have a look at the "sfidirector init" command in the reference manual).
Also, a binary tar for installation below /opt/sfidirector has been published on user request.
The contained system documentation feature is not fully production ready, yet, use it on your own risk.
Release 0.12 of the web user interface contains the usability improvements of BigSWAF 0.12, a domaintemplates wizard and various new dialogs like i.e for application subscriptions.
The Director is a system and network management software featuring centralized user/host management, software distribution, directory management and more. Release 4.2.1 introduces the new domain template mechanism and prepares for the forthcoming release 0.12 of the Web frontend BigClerk.
The new domain template mechanism makes it much easier to get services like DNS, DHCP, NIS, local /etc/passwd, etc. attached to the Director by providing parameterisable templates for commonly used services. So far, the "DNS Zone" template for BIND based name servers and the "ISC DHCP Config" template for ISC DHCP servers are included.
Please read the release notes or the online reference manual on http://nodedirector.bigsister.ch/documentation.html for more information.
The Director is a system and network management software featuring centralized user/host management, software distribution, directory management and more. Release 4.2.0 fixes the famous last stability bug(TM), brings more text into the reference manual and implements the concept of host assigned users.
Stability. The most annoying "timed out waiting for agent activity" bug has been worked around. The spurious problem of jobs staying in the job queue forever has been solved.
Host assigned users: assigning users and groups to single hosts or entire host classes is supported now and makes it possible to define what users are known/may logon to those hosts.
Please see the release notes or changelog for more detailed information.
The NodeDirector project has joined the Open Management Consortium. The project team expects to participate in and profit from its effort to boost interoperability between various open source management approaches by establishing a common set of standards and interfaces.
Version 0.09 of Node Director's web interface BigClerk has been released. The new release includes a conservatively revised look as well as new functionality: the new class hierarchy view allows to browse persons and hosts by their class structure. A new "group membership" dialog makes adding persons to groups easy. Special object type specific functionality is now directly accessible via the context menu of the main window.
The Director is a system and network management software featuring centralized user/host management, software distribution, directory management and more. The Director documentation has been supplemented by the manual "Director fuer Fortgeschrittene".
The manual is available as a PDF file from the documentation page http://nodedirector.bigsister.ch/documentation.html.
The Director is a system and network management software featuring centralized user/host management, software distribution, directory management and more. Release 4.1.0 brings along more stability and performance, as well as a few new functions.
Stability. Serious bug hunting in order to improve stability and reliability has taken place. The Director has passed stress-testing for the first time without a failure. However, there are still a few issues that are most probably system dependent and related to library versions.
Performance. Director is being deployed in a large system environment with effects on development. So far it has been proven that software distribution is ready for handling thousands of packages of the 3 linux distributions used in this environment. Theexperiences made in this project have found their way into documentation (notably OpenLDAP configuration hints) and into the sources.
Functionality. Huge efforts have been put into software distribution. Package dependency resolution, a system-upgrade function and clean handling of dependencies (currently RPM engine only) are included.
The Director is a system and network management software featuring centralized user/host management, application distribution, directory management and more. The latest release fixes a few bugs like excessive memory consumption and hangs of the Director server.
Please note that we strongly suggest upgrading to BigClerk 0.07 and Director 4.0.7b.
